1982 Fender Bullet Strat Made in USA

By Bobby Brooks

x
The Fender Bullet electric guitar was originally designed as a line of student guitars by John Page and manufactured and sold by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. Fender Instruments was looking to replace the outgoing student guitars, the Mustang and Musicmaster.
x
The USA Bullet 1 was to be manufactured in Korea in 1981, however, due to poor workmanship the guitars were brought back to America and built in Fullerton, California, USA. Fender Musical Instruments Corporation introduced a second version of the Bullet in 1982, including two bass models. This series featured a double cutaway body like the Fender Stratocaster but smaller and without body contouring. Maple was the only neck option, and the headstock retained the telecaster profile.
x
Retailers referred to the Fender Bullet guitars as "The Bullet One". The term Bullet One was never used by the Fender Corporation. The gold star and number "1" in the center of the Bullet logo was conceived by John Page after he noticed the way Billboard Magazine denoted number one songs.
x
When Kluson went out of business in 1981, Fender used leftover 70's "F" tuners on the '82 Bullets. After those ran out, they switched to sealed "Fender" stamped tuners, both made by Schaller in W. Germany.
x
The popular second version Bullet was available in color options of red, ivory, brown sunburst, or walnut; black was also available but never marketed as a color option.
x
Brand new in the early 1980's MSRP was $329.
x
The standard Fender Bullet guitar was originally retailed at $199.00, and the Deluxe guitar model was retailed at $249.00, and by 1982 $329.00. Both Bullets were sold with a vacuum formed, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) case, electric cable, polishing cloth, and bridge adjustment wrenches.
x
The guitar bodies of the Bullets were 1-5/8 inches thick, like the previous student guitar models, the Mustang and Musicmaster; and not the thickness of the standard Fender guitar bodies at 1-3/4 inches thick.
x
The Deluxe Bullet came with a plastic pickguard and a separate traditional hard tail bridge, while the standard Bullet came with a one-piece pickguard-bridge-tailpiece powder coated white or black with separate saddles for each string. The Bullet models were equipped with two single coil Mustang pickups and a three-way selector switch.
x
The Fender Bullet models used the same electronics and hardware used on other Fender guitars manufactured at the time.
